Chicago Fire FC sent six Fire Juniors Elite Teams to the President’s Day Tournament (PDT) in Phoenix, AZ from February 19th – 21st.  Hosted by SC Del Sol, PDT is an invited only tournament bringing together top teams from across the country.

The six Fire Juniors Elite teams, representing both boys and girls in the U12, U13, U14 age groups were composed of players from the eight Fire Juniors affiliate clubs.  Players were selected to represent the Fire Juniors Elite teams after attending the Emerging Talent Program game this past summer. The teams were coached by leading staff from across the network. The teams met in Phoenix two days early for training, team meals and bonding before kicking off the competition on Saturday, February 19th at the Reach 11 Complex.  See below for results by team.

2010 (U12) Boys: The U12 Boys started off the competition strong with a 7-3 win over Comba FC and a 4-3 win over Santa Clara Sporting. The second day brought tough competition from El Paso Cosmos, but the Fire Juniors held their own with a 2-0 win to move on to the knock out round.  The team had a solid semi-final showing against Arsenal Colorado with a 6-0 win. They closed out the weekend undefeated with a 6-1 win over Phoenix Rising FC in the final.

2010 (U12) Girls: The U12 Girls had a great showing at the tournament.  They started out the weekend with a 7-1 win over NSC Montana on Saturday and finished the day with a 13-0 win over Colorado Elevation.  They closed out the group stage games with a 4-0 win over CCV Stars before moving on to the knockout rounds.  The team had a decisive 8-1 victory over OK Energy in the semi-finals before moving on to the finals against Crossfire FC. The hard-fought championship game ended in a 1-1 tie before moving on to penalties.  The team held their composure to deliver a 4-2 win in PKs before lifting the trophy.

2009 (U13) Boys: The U13 Boys started off the competition against familiar faces in Northwind SC, winning 3-0 in their opening game.  They finished the first day with a 2-1 win over Broomfield Blast.  Day two brought challenges and learning opportunities with the team finishing out the group stage games with a 1-1 draw against UCSC Spurs.  The team closed out their tournament with a demanding semi-final, 0-1 loss to fellow MLS Affiliate RSL-AZ North.

2009 (U13) Girls: The U13 Girls kicked off the weekend with strong 2-1 win over Real Colorado Edge.  The second day was an excellent learning experience for Fire Juniors Elite U-13 Girls, which started with a challenging 3-3 draw against Arizona SC before bouncing back with a strong 4-1 win over Minnesota Thunder.  They moved directly on to the finals on Monday morning where they finished off the weekend well with a 4-0 win over Phoenix Rising FC.

2008 (U14) Boys: The U14 Boys started off the weekend with a scoreless draw against Pride SC in their first game.  They were met with further challenges in their second game, ending in a 0-2 loss to Excel Soccer Academy.  The team grew from their first day learning opportunities and closed out the group stage games with a 1-1 tie to Rush Select.  The team finished the weekend with a well deserved 1-0 win in their consolation game against Phoenix Rising ECNL.

2008 (U14) Girls: The first game was an excellent learning experience for the U14 Girls with a hard-fought 0-1 loss to Puma FC.  The team bounced back with a solid 8-0 win in their second game against El Paso Cosmos.  They finished out the group stage games with a 2-1 win over Rapids Central.  While finishing with a successful record, their goal differential was not enough to get them into the knockout rounds.  They closed out the weekend with a 0-0 draw against Manitou FC in their consolation game.

The weekend was a success on an off the field as new teammates came together seamlessly to show the talent of the Fire Juniors Network.  A huge thank you goes out to the families who travelled all the way to Arizona with us and those supporting the teams from back home.  We look forward to the continued successes of these players in the Spring season.
